The Admiral Benbow

Following a previous battle in which two BUF tanks were left damaged, Lt Tynberry has been ordered to protect and repair said tanks, a Vickers Mark III and Pz I. They are then to rejoin with the main forces further south. A small BUF militia force commanded by a Lt Smythe, consisting of two squads supported by a Renault FT17 and an armored car, have been ordered south to assist. Unbeknown to Lt Tyneberry, Smythe despises him and would rather go after the local Pub/Inn, the Admiral Benbow, as its ale is quite famous!

Meanwhile, the local Scot commander has ordered Lt Grimes with a squad each of Lowlanders/Highlanders with newly restored Mk IV and Whippet tanks (just liberated from a nearby WWI Monument), to capture or destroy the damaged BUF tanks just east of the Admiral Benbow. The Lt suspects a militia squad may be in the Pub/Inn, but will have to confirm somehow.

The Admiral Benbow is seen to the lower-right, with the damaged tanks to the right. BUF militia to the upper-right, with the Scot regulars to the left. The two hills located in the center will block line of sight from side to side with the exception of the lane passing through in the middle...

The Scots, with their supporting tanks...
The BUF militia forces...
The Royalist and the damaged tanks...
The 'famous' Admiral Benbow with a squad of Scot militia inside and partaking of the excellent ale...
The Royalist regulars near the MkIII, moving up the hillside to take positions overlooking the Benbow (to the left)...
The BUF militia heading down the road as fast as they can...
The Scots moving out (but one squad with a puzzling move to the west. Will they not be left behind?)
Half of the Royalist infantry have reached the ridge-line...
The BUF armored car has branched off and headed down the connecting lane...
One of the Scot's squads has entered the croft to search for a phone (Grimes wants to try to communicated with the Benbow), while the second continues its (?) march to the east-left). The Whippet is moving towards the Benbow...
First shots(and casualty!) as the BUF AC machineguns the Scot Platoon HQ (which has retreated out of sight behind the croft...
But the AC was counting on running into a MK IV (below), which fortunately for them missed with its first shot! Better part of valor is backing up down the lane. The FT17 begins moving across the southern hill towards the Benbow (off the photo to the right)...
The Mk IV fires at the FT17, but misses as the AC continues backing down the lane...
It fires again, and misses! Not enough practice for those Scots...
Yet another shot misses the FT17 which in turn misses the Whippet which has positioned itself outside the Benbow. Incredibly Lt Grimes located a phone and made a successful connection with the Scots inside (with the able assistance of the Switchboard operator!). Told them to hold tight, which they happily agreed to. The ale was exceptional...
The FT17 puts a shot onto the Whippet, but it goes clean through causing no damage. The FT realizes it has only two shots remaining. Meanwhile the MkIV (top-left) moves forward and misses again! Then, disaster, as the old engine seizes up.! Get it repaired!...
The MkIV finally gets a hit with its one of it's final shells as it destroys the mg and immobilizes the BUF AC...
The FT17 charges forward, and misses with its last shot! The Scot militia charge out of the Benbow (rather unsure footed I might add) and melee with one of the BUF squads causing casualties! The Whippet rakes the second BUF with its MGs. Unfortunately for the Scouts, The Royalists have repaired their tanks and have withdrawn from the battlefield. So Lt Grimes has some questions to answer; the Scot militia are 'feeling' quite content; The BUF militia received a bloody nose (and no ale!); while the Royalists fulfilled their orders w/o firing a shot! Interesting game to say the least!

On Skyren, The Orks are moving

While the Battle of the Roc rages, another group of Greenskins have moved southward into the desert region. An ambush is planned, but the Imperial fire is beyond bad, scoring one lone sniper hit on a Painboy. Two squads of fire miss the orks who then charge forward with their cycles, which smash into the Imperials, wiping out a full squad...

After wiping out the sniper squad, and after another Imperial squad waste another round of terrible shooting (not one hit!), the cycles crash into those Imperials. They finally cause some casualties on the Orks...
Finishing off the Imperial desert troops, the Orks lose another cycle. But at a cost of two cycles and change, the Orks have destroyed three full squads of Imperials!
The Greenskins then begin their assault on the Adeptus Mechanicus Mining facility, losing another cycle...
The Orks begin to melee with the defenders, while the full horde rushes forward...
In one amazing and brutal turn, four full (11-12 orks plus Painboyz) smash into the 'oomiez cogboyz', and destroy everyone of them! We actually then fight the WarBoss and his Nobz against the two robots and their controller, The Nobz are all lost, but the Warboss finishes the defenders off and the facillity falls!

A Counterattack: Liverpool

After the initial BUF attack, both sides regrouped, while the Free State organized a counterattack. A look at the new BUF defenses; on the left...

...on the right...
The Anarchists (bottom) and Socialists sections charge out. The anarchists however, are devastated although the BUF take a couple of casualties as well (both fail Nerve checks and go Jumpy-red caps)...
The Socialist section attempts to outflank the defenders, but suffers from support fire...
As the Liverpool regulars take a casualty, the BUF attempt their own counterattack...
The Anarchists succeed in getting their men over the fence, but their Nerve drops to Suppressed (yellow cap)...
The Regulars take another casualty from the BUF HMG, but the counterattacking section (as well as BUF in the building) take further casualties...
The BUF MMG shoots incredibly well and wipes out the supporting regulars! The Socialist section now finds itself in a crossfire. Not looking good for the Free Staters...
Both the Socialist and Anarchists raise their Nerve to Jumpy...
That however, doesn't last long as the Anarchists drop to suppressed, then they rout from the table...
The Socialists quickly follow and are forced to surrender! That didn't go well for the Liverpool Free State!

The Streets of Liverpool

Industrialized streets of the Free State of Liverpool. The BUF forces will come from the right while the Socialist/Anarchist front lines occupy the three red and one buff brick buildings to the right...

The main battlefield looking over the defender's shoulders...
The four BUF assault sections pour out of their positions to storm across the street, taking their first casualties...
The BUF militia on the right reaches the fence after taking another loss. But the Socialists get a bad break when they are struck by LMG fire. According to the rules, any unit fired upon by automatic weapons must make a Nerve check, and the Socialists roll snake eyes on two d6! Their Nerve slips to "Jumpy' (red cap)...
On the BUF left, they take down two Anarchists while losing only one of their own...
Again on the BUF left, two squads reach the defended buildings but get another break. The Anarchist fail two Nerve checks, and it falls to 'Suppressed" (yellow cap)...
Back to the right, the Socialists continue to fail Nerve checks as they fall to Suppressed. However, the attacking BUF Militia, which has lost 50%, sees their Nerve lowers to Jumpy. This Squad will soon Rout from the field...
The Anarchists barely maintain their position while supporting fire drops a few BUF who do successfully pass their own Nerve check...
Both the Socialists (top) and Anarchists begin to run.  The Socialist luck runs out as the BUF HMG guns down three of their number, causing them to Rout and leave the table...
Back on the BUF right, the second BUF Militia storms the now unoccupied building to their front...
The Anarchists don't get much further, as the BUF squads catch them out in the open and destroy them. First phase to the BUF forces!

to be continued...

The Approaches to Liverpool VBCW

The Liverpool Free State had stationed a reinforced infantry platoon as a tripwire to their main defenses within Liverpool (top of photo). A BUF force with a Vickers MkII and Matilda I tanks were sent to recon the best route to the city.

A small village located just outside of Liverpool, was garrisoned by socialist (left) and anarchist (right) sections and were approached by a regular BUF section (bottom)...

The anarchists draw first blood...
Another BUF goes down, but the anarchists lose one as well...
The anarchists were feeling pretty optimistic...until that Vickers MkII showed up near their position!
Forced to fall back, they nevertheless downed two more BUF, but then lost one of their own. A BUF militia squad joins to the left of the line. (Note, you can just make out a Boys ATR to the anarchists right)...
As the anarchists continue to fall back, the defenders Armored truck races down the road and drops more BUF. The Vickers fires at point blank, and misses!
The action on the BUF left finally lights up as a Matilda I smashes through the hedges and enables its infantry support to move forward...
The AC is immobilized by the Vickers, which in turn is immobilized by a Boys ATR shot from the edge of town! The supporting BUF infantry take further losses and are routed from the field...
After taking numerous hits from the socialists to their flank, two BUF sections will continue their advance past the defenders and will reach the outskirts of Liverpool. Mission accomplished despite taking heavy casualties, 24-7!
