The Shanghai Bund: 1920s

I set out this diorama at Green Mountain HS in May of 2011. It stretched some 42 feet from the southern end (at top edge of photo) to the Garden Bridge and Russian Legation at the northern. Each of the ‘buildings’ that faced the Bund were images blown up to scale so you have a ‘hollywood set’ effect. It was also used for our first Chinese Pulp Episode, set in 1925. (more on that later)
You see the Bund from a vantage point above the park located at the confluence of the  Whang Poo and Soochow Creek
River Traffic on the Whang Poo in front of the Sasson House (which wasn’t yet constructed in 1925, but my presentation at the school was set in 1927) You can get further pictures of the steamer and gunboat on other pages.
The scene for episode One, Ambush of Blackpool, was staged here in front of the famous Shanghai Club (second from left)
The Hong Kong/Shanghai Bank on left, and the Customs House with large clock tower
By the time the club played out two Episodes set here on the Bund, I added a great deal more to the waterfront; including sampans, autos, people, and even a tram. Unfortuately, when the games were played, no photos were taken. Next time!
